5 best date-sweetened desserts

Dates are natural sweets. Rich in vitamins and minerals, they make a nutritious sweetener in baking.

If you are looking to reduce your consumption of refined sugar then dates could be the ideal ingredient. When you bake treats yourself, you know exactly what goes in them. Packaged treats are usually very high in sugar and very low in nutrients.

A real superfood

Dates are rich in fibre and also contain a wide range of nutrients including vitamin B6, potassium, copper, iron, magnesium and manganese. Research has shown that dates can support brain health, bone health and even can help pregnant women with childbirth.

My favourite date-sweetened desserts

Today, I am sharing some of my favourite recipes sweetened with dates. This could be a great activity to do at the weekend with the children (if you have any). Some of these treats can be kept in the freezer so you don’t feel the need to eat too many at once. Even though they are made with dates, they are still sweet treats and should be enjoyed occasionally.

1. Gluten-free Cereal Bar

This is a great after-school snack for children or simply before a fitness session.

2. Chocolate Coconut Energy Balls

Again, these are great little snacks alongside a piece of fruit. They can be kept in the freezer.

3. Gluten-free Chocolate Brownies

Who doesn’t like a brownie? These have an incredible texture and taste amazing.

4. Indulgent Chocolate Pots

Sometimes we need a little bit of indulgence. The perfect ending to a lovely meal.

5. Gluten-free and Dairy-free Banoffee Pie

This recipe has become a classic in our house. A real treat with delicious ingredients your body and your taste buds will love.
